As part of the international signing period that begins on July 2, several Cubans have signed their agreement and their arrival to professionalism with Major League organizations. Las Tunas catcher Marcos Betancourt was one of those who reached an agreement with the Oakland Athletics.

Betancourt was the starting catcher of the Cuba U-15 team that was crowned champion of the 2016 Osaka World Cup.

“I feel very happy, this is something very big for me,” he toldCyberCuba hours after signing your contract.

The man from Las Tuscany has the advantage within his projection of being an offensive catcher who has power in the bat and arm, as well as speed. He is part of a generation of boys who left Cuba at a young age, due to lack of opportunities. As well as the substantial advantage of becoming a professional, Betancourt does not fail to recognize the arduous process of emigrating.

“I have had to give a lot of sacrifice to obtain this result,” he expressed.

Betancourt left Cuba in 2017 looking for the first dream of reaching professionalism, once fulfilled, he will now begin the difficult path of reaching the Major Leagues under the minor league scale.
