Pinar del Río catcher Lorenzo Quintana will remain active this winter and will wear the colors of the Cangrejeros de Santurce of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League of Puerto Rico.
Quintana hit .254, had 11 home runs and 42 RBIs in his first year in professional baseball, assigned to the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Double-A branch of the Houston Astros.
The double Cuban champion with the Vegueros de Pinar del Río will be playing first base and acting as a designated hitter, according to the official team page.
“His strong quality is offense, he comes with impressive numbers with the Double A affiliate team of the Houston Astros,” said Joey Solá, General Manager of the Cangrejeros de Santurce.
Quintana, 29 years old, took almost two years to obtain a signature in the Dominican Republic. Who knows, maybe this winter will make him grow in his development and in 2019 he will obtain the desired promotion to the Major Leagues.
