White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said this Friday that the "caliphate" of the Islamic State terrorist group (IS) has been 100% eliminated after the last fighting in Al Baguz.
This location represented the last stronghold of the terrorist organization in eastern Syria.
The official revealed the news to journalists who accompanied President Donald Trump aboard the Air Force One plane on his trip to Florida, according to The Associated Press.
Sanders showed reporters a map of Iraq and Syria that showed the terrorist group no longer controlled any territory in the region.
The American leader, for his part, said on Wednesday that the Islamic State was going to disappear from Syria immediately.
He made the announcement in statements to the press in Washington, before leaving for a rally in Ohio.
