Police forces have broken into the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, and detained the four supporters of Nicolás Maduro who still remained in the buildingMedea Benjamin, co-founder of the social movement CodePink, a group that follows the Chavista leader, revealed on her Twitter account.
According to Benjamin, the detention is a “total violation of the Vienna Convention.”
With the action, the order given by the North American Government to vacate the headquarters diplomatic, occupied for weeks by followers of the Chavista regime.
Previously, the Venezuelan Carlos Vecchio, representative of the opposition leader Juan Guaidó in the United States, had formally requested local authorities to retake the embassy of his country, which since April was occupied by supporters of the Venezuelan president.
On January 24, Maduro ordered all his diplomatic personnel accredited in that country to return to Caracas, after the breakdown of relations between both governments.
The US State Department also gave a period of three months for the Venezuelan officials to leave the place, where their substitutes, appointed by Juan Guaidó, whom the Trump administration recognizes as interim president, had to access.
Although the Chavista diplomatic staff left the building several weeks ago, before leaving they handed the keys to Maduro supporters, who did not allow the team designated by Guaidó to enter.
