Cuban slugger Jorge Soler has been one of the most amazing stories of the Antillean army in the Major Leagues this season.
At 27 years old, he has managed to overcome the barrier of 40 home runs and 100 RBIs. Currently Soler is hitting .251, 40 home runs and 101 RBIs.
He also became the first baseball player born on the island to participate in the National Series and hit 40 or more home runs in a Major League campaign.
"I feel very proud to have achieved it. It was special for me and my family because they deserve it too," Soler told CiberCuba this Friday at Marlins Park.
The Kansas City Royals, mired in a losing and rebuilding season, can boast of possessing Soler, who arrived with a halo of promise after the trade for Wade Davis to Chicago and which put Soler in Kansas. Already in 2018, the consecration of someone who was one of the most valued prospects in his class was expected, but an injury ended hopes.
"When I broke the record there in Kansas City I felt such a great emotion that I couldn't believe it," he says of the night he broke Mike Moustakas' franchise record of 38 homers.
Soler still remembers his beginnings in the Cuban National Series and a difficult debut in Sancti Spiritus, a match that was broadcast on television. Some time later he emigrated and signed a professional contract with the Chicago Cubs.
Now in Kansas the future seems to have no horizons for the Cuban.
