The Cuban activist Guillermo del Sol Pérez, 53 years old, has begun to show symptoms of physical and organic deterioration in view of completing a month on hunger strike.
Del Sol – a member of the illegal Old Catholic Church of Santa Clara – began his strike to demand that the country's government not prohibit Cuban citizens from traveling just because they disagree with state policy.
At this moment the activist already has pain in his joints, muscles and kidneys mainly, according to what he told Radio Marti.
“I am already very weak, at any moment they will have to hospitalize me,” said the activist, who is also director of the independent news agency Santa Clara Vision.
“The only thing I am demanding is that the Constitution that they themselves created be fulfilled,” he declared.
“If Raúl Castro believes that letting me die is going to solve his problem, let him let me die,” he said after clarifying that the doctor in charge of providing medical follow-up had not shown up at his home for 2 days.
“International public opinion is seeing how human rights are constantly violated in Cuba against civil society, but also against self-employed and others,” he emphasized.
Guillermo del Sol He began his strike after immigration authorities prevented his son from traveling to an event in Trinidad and Tobago, because it was “regulated,” as they notified him without further explanation.
As happens most of the time, Cubans with an “exit ban” are notified when they are about to board their flight, with ticket, visa and passport in order.
Since 2012, the regulated figure has existed in Cuba but, in principle, this category can only be applied to senior leaders, university students linked to strategic programs, and officials related to first-rate activities in the country's economic and scientific development.
However, in recent times it has been used constantly to block activists critical of the Government from leaving Cuba, so that they cannot present their version of political and civil life on the Island.
In this way, the measure implemented by the Havana regime enters into direct violation of Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which specifies that “every person has the right to move freely and to choose their residence in the territory of a country.” State".
Guillermo del Sol Pérez also created a campaign on the social network Twitter named #Ni1ReguladoMas to ask for support from Cubans and demand that this arbitrary measure stop being applied.
