The Hialeah headquarters of the popular Cuban restaurant "Montes de Oca" was devoured by a huge fire that burned for hours this Thursday night.
A Facebook user broadcast live about an hour of the incident, which devoured this branch of the well-known Miami-based restaurant chain inch by inch. The "Montes de Oca" of Hialeah is located at 445 Hialeah Dr.
"This is hell, it's a fire of great proportions," residents of the area and onlookers can be heard saying, while several fire trucks try to extinguish the flames. The flames reached several feet high and some surrounding businesses suffered extensive damage.
In Miami, the "Montes de Oca" brand is immediately associated with Cuban pizza. The founder of the restaurant chain, Manolo Montes de Oca, emigrated to the United States in 1980 and made "Varadero-style" pizzas a hallmark.
Miami authorities said in a brief statement that an investigation has been launched to determine the causes of the fire.
