US President Donald Trump, who confirmed this Friday that both he and the first lady had tested positive for coronavirus, has symptoms and is expected to continue working, the White House chief of staff announced to the press.

"The American people can rest assured that we have a president who is not only still working, but will continue to do so, and I am optimistic that he will have a quick recovery," said Mark Meadows.

According to Meadows' statements this Friday, Trump is "not only in good spirits, but very energetic" after the COVID-19 diagnosis.

"Doctors continue to monitor both his health and the health of the first lady," he reported.

In the early hours of this Friday, Trump announced on his official Twitter account that he and his wife Melania Trump, were confirmed as positive for COVID-19.

For her part, Melania, when announcing the news, assured that "we both feel good and have postponed all upcoming commitments."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he had a phone conversation with Trump on Friday morning and that he was "in good spirits."

"We talked about business, especially how impressed the senators are with Judge Barrett's qualifications," he said. "Full steam ahead with the fair, complete and timely process that the nominee, the Court and the country deserve."

So far it has not been confirmed how the Trumps became infested with coronavirus, although the news comes after one of the president's closest advisers, Hope Hicks, with whom the president traveled to Ohio for Tuesday's debate and to Minnesota for a rally on Wednesday, also tested positive for Covid.

The news of Donald Trump's contagion has shocked the international community, attentive to the upcoming presidential elections on November 3.

Due to this situation, the rally that Trump had planned for Friday in Washington and his subsequent trip to Sanford, Florida, were canceled.

Donald Trump's main opponent in this campaign, Democrat Joe Biden, said that both he and his wife They are praying for the president's recovery Donald Trump and the First Lady.

"We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family," he said.

In the first presidential debate that Trump and Biden held on Tuesday night, Trump mocked the Democrat for wearing a mask.

"I don't wear masks like him. Every time you see him, he has a mask on," he said. "He could be talking 200 feet away and he shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen."
