President Donald Trump told CiberCuba that the regime wants to reach an agreement with the United States due to the impact of the sanctions imposed by his administration, but he warned that he will not sit down to negotiate if the Cuban government does not show a willingness to make concessions.
"Cuba wants to reach an agreement because they are desperate. We are hitting the Castro dictatorship very hard. We need to see what concessions the Cuban government is willing to make before we talk about sitting down to negotiate with them," Trump stated in an exclusive interview with CiberCuba hours before traveling to Miami for a rally in the final stretch of his electoral campaign this Sunday morning.
The president reiterated his admiration and commitment to the Cuban-American community in South Florida, which has given him overwhelming support, and stated that if re-elected, he would implement much more severe measures against the Havana regime.
"The Castro regime doesn't know what's coming for them; believe me," asserted the president.
The interview with Trump by CiberCuba was scheduled from early September as part of our publication's coverage of the historic elections on November 3 in the United States. Both the president and the Democratic candidate Joe Biden simultaneously received separate questionnaires of 12 questions on various topics related to U.S. policy towards Cuba and the Cuban-American community, including the situation of asylum seekers in immigration detention, the stalled family reunification program, the sonic attacks on U.S. diplomats in Havana, as well as travel and remittances to the island.
Trump agreed to answer only a portion of the series of questions. The president's campaign argued that several of the proposed topics required review and consultation with his advisors and federal agencies. A spokesperson for the campaign stated that the frenzy of the electoral battle prevented him from completing all the responses, but that he could do so later.
Interview in CiberCuba with President Donald Trump
CiberCuba: His administration has implemented the strongest sanctions in just three years to intensify the trade embargo against Cuba. What other sanctions do you plan to apply if you are re-elected?
Donald Trump: I took the strongest measures against the Cuban dictatorship and canceled the disastrous agreement made by Barack Obama and Joe Biden that sent millions of dollars to the Castro regime without doing anything to help the Cuban people. The Biden-Obama policy towards Cuba was not only an insult to the people of Cuba, but it also betrayed the GREAT Cuban-American community. We cannot allow this.
Cuban-Americans are my friends. They have built a beautiful city in Miami, and I am proud to have so many Cuban-American supporters. I can tell you that we are closely considering more sanctions that are very, very severe. The Castro regime does not know what is coming; believe me.
In the next four years, we will continue to punish the Castros for the horrible way they treat their people. Joe Biden won't do it because he is a weak man with limited能力. The Castros are bullies, ruthless killers, and thieves. We must be very tough on them, and Joe Biden doesn't even know where he stands.
Biden has always been very, very weak on socialism. In the Senate, Biden voted FIVE TIMES to cut funding for the Nicaraguan contras who were desperately trying to free their country from Daniel Ortega. Puerto Rico had a strong pharmaceutical industry, but Joe Biden voted to send it to communist China and destroyed its economy. He kneeled before the Castros and praised Nicolás Maduro while he was killing his own people.
He is now accepting support from socialists across Latin America—such as the Colombian Gustavo Petro—and the Venezuelan dictatorship has just come out to back him. The reason socialists and communists favor Joe Biden so much is that they know he is weak and can be manipulated to do their bidding.
As long as I am President, the United States will never be a socialist country! We need to defeat socialism and communism. I will not allow the United States to follow the path of Cuba and Venezuela, which is where Joe Biden's radical agenda would lead us.
CiberCuba: The Cuban-American community has given you overwhelming support in your re-election campaign. Why do you think this empathy has developed towards you?
Donald Trump: We are doing very well with Cubans and all Hispanics because unlike Joe Biden, who has betrayed Cubans and all Latinos, I have stood by them.
I have fulfilled my promises to Cuban Americans. When I said I would end the weak agreement Joe Biden and Barack Obama had with Cuba, I did it, and we struck the Castro dictatorship very, very hard. Joe Biden would be a disaster for Cuba and Cuban Americans. Biden wants to appease the Castros again, just as he surrendered to Ortega and Maduro, and the Cuban people know it. Cubans are very smart.
Cubans have also experienced socialism, and they don’t like what they see in the Democratic Party. What has happened to them? They used to be more normal. Now they are controlled by Fidel Castro-loving socialists like the crazy Bernie Sanders, AOC, and Karen Bass, the communist. These people want to turn the United States into Cuba or Venezuela, and we cannot allow it.
The radical socialist agenda of Biden includes a $4 trillion tax increase, which would plunge the country into an unprecedented depression. He wants taxpayers to fund abortions for babies up until the moment of birth in the ninth month of pregnancy. That's horrible! And Joe Biden even wants to cut police funding and target charter schools. We cannot allow that in our country.
In the next four years, I will create 10 million jobs, eradicate the virus from China, and give every family the opportunity to choose a school for their children. Hispanics know that I built the greatest economy this country has ever seen, achieving the lowest poverty rate and the highest income levels ever reached by Latinos before the pandemic, and I am doing it again.
If I don't sound like a traditional politician, it's because I'm not one. I'm an outsider. Joe Biden is the most corrupt politician in Washington.
When I say that the United States will NEVER be a socialist or communist country, Cuban Americans know that I mean it and that I will never allow that to happen. We have to be very, very strong against socialism, and I am fighting to save our country.
I had a great life before entering politics. I do this because I love our country, and the Cuban-American community understands it because they are great patriots. Incredible people.
CiberCuba: Its administration has announced a patriotic education plan to combat Marxist influence and critical views on the United States in schools. Are you not concerned that this may become a mechanism for censorship of ideas in the public education system?
Donald Trump: Those who are censoring and attacking Americans for their political views and trying to destroy the lives of good people are the Radical Left. Look at what the Democrats tried to do to [the company] Goya and my supporters! They called for a boycott of Goya because the CEO of the company made a positive comment about my administration's work to uplift Hispanics. It's madness!
I love freedom of expression, but we cannot allow taxpayers' money to be used to indoctrinate our children with Marxism and to instill hatred for our country, our flag, and shame for our history. This is not Cuba or Venezuela! That is why I have launched the Patriotic Education Commission.
I want to restore patriotic education in our classrooms to teach young people to love the United States and to learn the true history of our great nation.
CiberCuba: Your opponent's Democratic campaign insists that you are racist and that this is a powerful reason to remove you from the White House. How do you respond to this accusation?
Donald Trump: I have always condemned white supremacy, and all forms of racism and hate, including socialism and communism. Unlike Joe Biden, I have enabled very valuable outcomes for Black and Hispanic people: millions of jobs, a record low unemployment rate, record high homeownership rates, better school options, and the lowest poverty levels in history for minorities.
Joe Biden spent 47 years in Washington, and now he claims he will do something for Black and Latino people. His policies incarcerated millions of African Americans and Latinos, which is why I enacted criminal justice reform to give a second chance to people who have made mistakes. Joe Biden is the one who has praised segregationists, lauded a leader of the Ku Klux Klan, and insulted African Americans.
Biden should apologize to Black people and Hispanics for what he has done to them, but he won't because he is a typical corrupt politician. I will always fight for justice and equality.
CiberCuba: You have been able to sit at the negotiating table and engage in dialogue with a dictator like Kim Jong-un. Would you sit down to resolve your differences with Cuba in the same way?
Donald Trump: Cuba wants to reach an agreement because they are desperate. We are hitting the Castro dictatorship very hard. We need to see what concessions the Cuban government is willing to make before talking about sitting down to negotiate with them.
What I won't do is what Joe Biden and Barack Obama did, which was a total shame and resulted in giving the Castros and their families millions of dollars in exchange for NOTHING. The Castros are very, very rich, but the Cuban people received absolutely NOTHING in return for Joe Biden's weak and pathetic unilateral agreement with them. That was very unfair.
Biden doesn’t know what he’s doing. He is already promising to lift sanctions on the Cuban dictatorship without demanding anything in return. He is incompetent and corrupt. Cuban Americans know this, and all Americans know it. We must be strong against the Cuban regime. The only one who doesn’t understand this is Joe Biden because he is not very intelligent.
What the Castros have done to Cuba, which was once a prosperous country, is a crime. It is absolutely awful. I know how much my great friends in the Cuban-American community have suffered under Castro's dictatorship. That regime must be held accountable for what it has done. We need justice for the Cuban people, and I will continue to fight for it.
