Cuban outfielder Yoelkis Céspedes, brother of star Yoenis Céspedes, signed this Friday afternoon with the Chicago White Sox and fulfilled his "first dream" of achieving a professional contract with a Major League franchise.
The 23-year-old from Granma will finally receive a $2.05 million bonus.
Thus ends a first stage for the brother of "La Potencia" Céspedes. Yoelkis will have a more than favorable scenario to advance his career to the Major Leagues in a franchise that is booming promoting Cuban talent.
Yoelkis left the Cuban national team concentration while they were on a tour of the United States in 2019, as part of an agreement with the Canadian American League (Can-Am League).
From that moment on, the youngest Céspedes took on the task of establishing his residence in a third country, signed with a quite prestigious representation agency such as Magnus Sport, and the rest was dictated by his own multi-tool talent.
Céspedes topped the lists of prospects with major league potential: speed, arm, power, batting power and contact.
Yoelkis will likely see action starting in the Minor Leagues between Double-A and Triple-A, and depending on his impact at these levels the Chicago South Side organization could promote him more quickly to the elite Major League team.
