A car that the Cuban government dedicates to rent for tourism suffered an accident on Friday in Camagüey, where the driver was apparently killed.
The event occurred between the city of Camagüey and the municipality of Florida, according to a publication in the Facebook group called 'BUS & TRUCK ACCIDENTS for more experience and fewer victims!'.
"According to witnesses, the driver was from Holguín, he died and the companion did not," wrote the author of the post, identified as Ariel Leyva.
So far it is not known what the vehicle collided with, nor has the official press reported the incident.
However, another member of the group said that he heard that the driver lost control and went into the sewer.
Others provided information about the deceased, who apparently was a young 28-year-old scientist residing in the Pinares neighborhood, located in the Mayarí municipality, in Holguín.
"That curve is very dangerous and if you are not familiar with the terrain it can play tricks on you," commented a resident of Camagüey.
"The roads are terrible, avoiding potholes, loose animals, the few signs have consequences," added another user.
"I live meters from the Central Highway and at night cars pass for more than km, everyone is in a hurry," added a third.
Last December there was anotherfatal traffic accident in Camagüey, which also involved a tourist car. On that occasion, a Cuban-American died and another person suffered injuries.
The incident occurred at kilometer 558 of the central highway, westbound, after the vehicle left the road and after losing control, collided with a tractor trailer, according to information fromTV Camagüey.
The driver of the car lost his life instantly. He was identified as a Cuban-American named Domingo de Jesús Fandiño Gutiérrez, 48 years old. Traveling with him was his 23-year-old son, who at the time the news was disclosed was receiving medical attention at the territory's provincial hospital.
The vehicle with license plate T024258 came from Havana and was headed to the province of Las Tunas. After the collision he was destroyed.
