The Cuban mountaineer residing in Iceland, Yandy Núñez Martínez, is in the final preparations for his climb to Mount Everest, where he will depart this Saturday, March 27.

Recently, the Cuban announced on the social network Facebook that he had completed his training to reach the top of the highest mountain in the world, a dream for which he has worked hard and with discipline.

“Ready for Everest. All my equipment tested in Eyjafjallajökull.

I finally managed to test my equipment and try it on in freezing conditions with incredibly beautiful weather,” Núñez said on his official website. The Cuban Mountaineer.

His most recent promotions were to Aconcagua (6,962 meters) and Mount Elbrus (5642 meters), in December 2019 and January 2020, respectively. Before, he had already summited Mont Blanc, Iztaccíhuatl and Orizaba. Now he must conquer the 8,848 meters high to become the first Cuban on Everest.

This is a climb not exempt from dangers and demands of all kinds. Getting to Everest Base Camp, which is at an altitude of 5,364 meters and where the ascent actually begins, will take two weeks in which you will have to make a long trekking with temperatures ranging from 0 to -15°C at this time of year.
