The team ofCuban women's 4x400 meter relay won gold medal this Sunday at the World Relay Championshipsand qualified for theTokyo Olympics with a time of 3:28.41.

With the major absences of the US and Jamaican teams in the event, the Cubans Zurian Hechavarría, Rose Mary Almanza, Lisneidy Veitía and Roxana Gómez managed to win in Silesia, the city where the championship takes place, and now they dream of a final olympic

It is the first Cuban medal in the five editions of the world relay championships.

Once again the Creole post was made up of Zurian Hechavarría, Rose Mary Almanza, Lisneidy Veitía and Roxana Gómez. Although they did not manage to improve their time from Saturday's day, their record allowed them to enter ahead of Poland (3:28.81) and Great Britain (3:29.27) in a very close final.

This time the Cubans did not have a good start and their reaction time was second to last among the eight starters. However, Zurian Hechavarría handed over the baton in third position, although his time of 53.45s was much lower than what he achieved yesterday.

Then Rose Mary Almanza (52.59s) was the fastest in the second section and managed to stay less than a second behind the leader.

The third lap belonged to Lisneidy Veitía, who with her 51.41s moved to second place in the race, just six hundredths behind the Dutch quartet.

The last pass went to Roxana Gómez, the best Cuban runner who set a faster pace than on the qualifying day and completed the last lap in 50.96s, the second fastest time.

That time was enough to surpass not only the leaders, but also to maintain dominance of the race against the push of the Poles and the British.

In the end, Holland deflated and entered fourth position (3:30.12), followed by Italy (3:32.69), Germany (3:33.00), Belgium (3:37.66) and France (3:40.58).

The 3:28.41 obtained by the Cuban relievers represents the sixth best run by an Antillean long relay in the last decade.
