The Cuban sports journalist Yasel Porto Gómez reacted to the death of Higinio Vélez, president of the Cuban Baseball Federation, who died this Wednesday from coronavirus.

In a post on his Facebook wall, the presenter said that when he learned of the event he was first surprised and then felt sorry, but that he would never be happy about someone's death.

"We are not God to judge a person in such circumstances, no matter how many defects and mistakes they may have made, because furthermore, it is not the time to laugh or criticize, but rather a time for great respect no matter who," he stated.

Yaser recalled that in many places, including television, He said that Higinio should not continue leading baseball in Cuba, because he had not done well there and because Cuban baseball needed a change.

"But I always made it clear and today I emphasize it, that his departure was not the only solution to our problems because there are many things that transcended him and that will transcend whoever comes," he stressed.

The young commentator, who in 2020 He left Cuban television because the directors did not renew his contract, stressed that although he does not retract what he expressed before, this was not the way he desired for him to leave his position.

"And although many consider that there is nothing good to say about him, I think it would be unfair and false to point out that everything was bad and that there was nothing favorable on his part with baseball, and not just what he did as a manager... "he stressed.

Finally, Yaser stressed that his journalism is not conditioned by personal relationships, and that we all have equally virtues and effects.

"Today I ask to put aside hatred and resentment, whether for personal, political or any other issue, and demonstrate with our attitude that we are human beings and Cubans above all," he demanded.

"I do not think it is time to sanctify or demonize, to think about what will come now, nor insofar as it escapes prudence, ethics and respect. It is time to say, simply, EPD Higinio Vélez Carrión," he concluded.
