Two arrested for shooting in popular area of Miami Beach

The detainees, ages 21 and 29, face charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, grand larceny and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Miami Beach police arrested two people allegedly responsible for a shooting Monday night in which two people were injured.

Christopher Urena, 29, and Wisdom Awute, 21, remain in police custody for shooting several people in a restaurant area in South Beach on Monday after 11:30 p.m.

The two shot two people: one in the shoulder and the other in the leg, in a shooting near the corner of Ocean Drive and First Street, a few blocks from South Pointe Park.

Urena, a resident of the city of Davie, in Florida's Broward County, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, grand larceny and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

According to the arrest report, to which he had access Local 10 News, Urena shot a person after an altercation and then fled the scene in a Chrysler 300 that was not his.

When he was stopped, he said he was only moving the car because it was blocking the parking area.

For his part, Awute, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, will be prosecuted for the crimes of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Police confirmed that he was also involved in the argument before pointing his gun at the two victims, eventually shooting one in the right calf.

Awute works in the music industry and is a member of rapper DaBaby's team. He was also detained for questioning, but was released.

The incident prompted several people, residents and tourists, to call 911 to report the gunshots.

Law enforcement officers responded and found the two injured, who were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center by Miami Beach firefighters.

Ernesto Rodríguez, spokesman for the city police, confirmed that one of the victims has already been discharged, while the other remains hospitalized in critical condition and is paralyzed so far.

Their identities have not been revealed.
