The right Carlos Juan Viera -loser of Cuba's key game in the recent Florida Pre-Olympic - won yesterday in his debut with the Saraperos de Saltillo uniform in the Mexican Baseball League, after a one-inning relief against the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna.

In that outing, the Las Tunas native allowed a couple of hits, fanned an opponent and forced a double play ground ball. According to the championship's official website, he only threw ten pitches, seven of them for strikes.

32 years old, Viera accumulates previous experiences with the Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan winter tournament (2018-19) and the Cañeros de los Mochis in the Mexican Pacific League (20-21).

Recently, the eastern right-hander was tasked with starting the second game for the Cuban team in the Pre-Olympic, but he was mistreated by Canada and ultimately took the loss after a task of only two outs, four hits and three runs.

His arrival at the Saraperos must have occurred accompanied by the number one pitcher of the national squad, Lazaro Blanco, but he chose not to take the plane that would take him to Aztec land.

In the game the day before, his countryman Henry Urrutia -interviewed this Saturday for CiberCuba's El Francotirador- He hit two doubles in four at-bats that raised his average to .414, with his RBIs 16th and 17th of the contest.

Right now, Sarape's fourth-stringer is second in home runs with six, third in slugging (.776) and fourth in RBIs and OPS (1.229). Paradoxically, Cuba's coaching staff decided not to include him in their final roster for the event.

Saltillo is fourth in the Northern League of the championship with eight wins and six defeats, three games from the top.
