US on Patria y Vida award: The tribute to the democratic desires of the Cuban people captured the attention of the world

The Undersecretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the United States Department of State,Brian A. Nichols, stated this Friday that the tribute to the democratic desires of the Cuban people embodied in the song"Homeland and Life" captured the world's attention at the Latin Grammys.

The official congratulated the creators of the song –Yotuel Romero, Maykel Osorbo, El Funky, Alexander Delgado, Randy Malcom, Descemer Bueno, Beatriz Luengo and Yadam González–, awarded at the Latin Grammy ceremony with the award for Best Song of the Year. Year and Best Urban Song.

"Congratulations to the artists who created the anthem of Cuban freedom 'Patria y Vida', chosen as song of the year at @LatinGRAMMYs. The tribute to the democratic yearnings of the Cuban people captured the attention of the world. Cubans bravely defend “the homeland and life," he expressed on Twitter.

In a previous post, Nichols celebrated the Cuban presence at the awards gala in Las Vegas and raised awareness of the demands for justice for political prisoners on the island.

"Last night we listened to the Grammy-winning artists and we will not lose sight of the ongoing injustices. One of the creators of “Patria y Vida”, the artistMaykel Osorbo, remains unjustly imprisoned in Cuba and must be released," he stressed.

The triumph of "Patria y Vida" at the 22nd edition of the Latin Grammys had a great impact in Cuba and in the international press.

This Friday the headlines of the main newspapers in the United States and Latin America highlighted that the song is a hymn to the freedom of the island.

Likewise, it has served to request through different means the release of Maykel Osorbo, who has said that he was arrested by the Cuban regime forwrite a part of the song, in which the repression of the Cuban regime is denounced.
