The explosion of a pressure cooker causedinjuries to the face and both eyes of the boxer of Cuban origin Guillermo Rigondeaux, who currently only has twenty percent of his vision.

The Jackal was cooking at his home in Miami when the unfortunate event occurred on Thursday night.

"When the pot exploded and we saw how Rigondeaux was left, we thought the worst, because his face and eyes looked very bad as a result of the impact of the explosion. But we hope he recovers," said his manager Alex Bornote in statements reported byThe New Herald, which have been reproduced in numerous American publications.

The accident forced him to be urgently hospitalized and kept under medical care until this Friday, when he was discharged.

According to the Miami newspaper, Now several tests will be performed to determine the depth of the injury., although it is believed that only the retina was affected: if so, the tissue will regenerate on its own and the man from Santiago will fully recover his vision.

On the other hand, if the damage goes further, a reserved prognosis operation will be necessary.

While waiting for the results of these tests to be known, it remains to be seen if this accident becomes a catalyst for the retirement of the two-time Olympic champion and three-time professional champion, who just a few days ago shelvedthe third defeat of his career against the Filipino Vincent Astrolabio.
