Miami Airport would close the year with a record of 50 million passengers

Miami International Airport (MIA) could close the year with a record of fifty million passengers, according to the entity's semiannual balance sheet. which set a new milestone with 25.5 million travelers.

Our region is experiencing greater tourism growth than any other community in the country, strengthening the economy and offering greater employment opportunities for citizens, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a statement.

The MIA closed the first half of the year with traffic of more than 25 million passengers and has recovered cargo traffic, said its governing board, which estimated the increase in travelers at 8.5% compared to 2019.

Americans and foreign residents in the American Union are the ones that most drove the increase until the middle of the year, contributing 15.3 million passengers, 26% more than in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic paralyzed commercial passenger aviation. and reduce the load to a minimum.

International travelers who used the Miami airport were ten million two hundred thousand, for an increase of 102% compared to the first half of 2021; although still below pre-pandemic figures.

The International Airports Council of North America confirmed the rebound in the MIA, placing it as the one with the highest growth in the first quarter of the year.

In 2021, Miami airport was also the airport with the highest international passenger and cargo traffic; recalled the MIA statement. which provides work and services to many Cuban emigrants residing in Florida.

Miami International Airport, opened in 1928 and historically known asWilcox Field, is the main airport of the South Florida metropolitan area, and is located thirteen kilometers from the city center, where the Airbus A-380 superjumbo operates, an advantage shared with seven other air terminals in the United States.

MIA hosts thehub of American Airlines connection with Latin America, and the cargo bases of UPS, FEDEX, with routes to the Far East, as well as connections for passengers with Europe and North Africa.
