HeMiami International Airport will have in just two years astate-of-the-art parking, with seven levels and capacity for more than two thousand vehicles, Miami Dade County authorities announced this Tuesday.
At the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new parking lot, the mayor of Miami-Dade,Daniella Levine-Cava, celebrated the execution of new investments for the MIA and the county.
He highlighted the importance of this project for those who have to use the airport, because “we are growing at a historic level. (…) With this, in two years, we will have not only a new garage, but a total10,000 parking spaces”.
The parking lot will alleviate parking problems at the air terminal, due to theincreasing influx of travelers in the last decade, by making availablespaces for 2,240 vehicles and 50 positions for electric cars.
The structure will be built in an area adjacent to the current Flamingo parking lot and should be completed in the summer of 2026.
It will be a sustainable garage, which brings international standards, will reduce carbon levels and will use lights that reduce electricity consumption, Levine-Cava stressed.
“We have a program of more than 7,000 million dollars to ensure that our airport is the best airport in the world,” he reported.Kevin Cabrera, Miami-Dade commissioner.
“Today, we began construction of the new Miami International Airport parking lot, a crucial step forward to improve our infrastructure and improve the experience of the millions of passengers who pass through our airport each year,” Cabrera wrote on his social networks.
The construction of the new parking lot will cost 136 million dollars and is part of a series of development projects at the Miami airport, where some 143,000 passengers arrive daily.
This week it was announced thata federal program will provide $27 million to Miami International Airport for improvements to their facilities. The grant is part of federal funding that also includes Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and other airfields in Florida and the United States.
MIA is the second busiest airport in the United States and one of the busiest in the world.Could break the passenger volume record for the third consecutive year.
The mayor of Miami-Dade also announced that in 2025 construction of a hotel inside the air terminal will begin.
Also began theMIA Skytrain repair, built 25 years ago and taken out of service in September 2023. Continuous service between stations 2 to 4 is expected to resume in late March and full operation to be restored in the summer, according to airport officials .
