The Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel began a visit to Mexico this Saturday, where he was received by his host, Andrés Manuel López Obrador and other Mexican authorities, to address "medical and health issues" and "economic issues."

The president arrived this Saturday accompanied by his wife Lis Cuesta at the Campeche International Airport, where he was received with military honors and was visited in Edzná, one of the centers of the majestic Mayan civilization, the distinction of the Aztec Eagle.

There he gave a speech thanking Mexico's solidarity in "difficult times", stated that they would visit the Cuban doctors who work in that state in Campeche due to an agreement signed in 2022, and mentioned the rajón stone export from Cienfuegos for the construction of the controversial Mayan Train promoted by the Obrador government. He considered both "beneficial projects for our people."

"We have been able to carry out mutually beneficial programs," he said.

Although the official agenda of the visit has not been detailed, various media outlets and officials have been revealing the issues that will be addressed by both governments.

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said the two will address "medical and health issues" and talk about "economic issues."

For its part, the official Cuban agency Latin Press He pointed out that Díaz-Canel and López Obrador will discuss the supply of ballast for the Mayan Train [Cuba has already begun to send stones from its quarries in Cienfuegos for that controversial project], issues related to the US embargo on Cuba; and will hold private interviews.

When welcoming him, López Obrador thanked him for "his gesture of sending doctors to collaborate in the development of assistance plans" in Mexico.

However, the portal Infobae, considered that "the underlying issue in this state visit is the negotiation of cash resources for the Cuban regime."

In this regard, journalist Pablo Hiriart recalled that Mexico has imported the services of more than 600 doctors from Cuba and that in the future this agreement will be maintained through the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), despite the fact that large sectors and the Opposition National Action Party (PAN) protested in 2022 against the hiring of Cuban health personnel for the sole purpose of "financially helping the Cuban regime."

Hiriart emphasizes that "the Cuban regime does not waste time on courtesy visits," because it is in need of "foreign currency to be able to buy supplies and food in the United States, where the Díaz-Canel government must pay in cash," because there it is not They grant credit because they "don't pay."

He considered that Díaz-Canel is nothing more than "an office bureaucrat, who seeks to stay in office to evade the courts, since his mandate has been marked by the violation of the Human Rights of the Cuban people themselves."

The ruler of the Caribbean island arrived in Mexico on the plane of the Venezuelan airline Conviasa, with which he has made his last international tours in search of help.

This is the fifth meeting between both leaders and the fourth official visit of the Cuban to Mexico, the last two together with Cuesta, who is not recognized as First Lady but serves as such.
