Cuban authorities seek to increase the production of mud for the construction of homes in Las Tunas and the repair of tourist facilities affected by Hurricane Ian in Pinar del Río.

A local television report in Las Tunas indicated that the tiles in the La Victoria district, in the provincial capital, are intensifying the production of ornamental tiles, rasillas, and clay pipes for the sanitary network.

In addition, pots of various formats are made for the territory's botanical garden, which has the largest clay deposits in the country.

According to the report, "clay becomes an alternative to boost local production of construction materials," in a country with a growing housing debt.

Dilto Burgueiro, a 78-year-old master potter, said that currently 5,000 tiles per month come out of his kiln to Pinar del Río to recover tourist facilities in Viñales affected by Hurricane Ian in September of last year.

Faced with the growing housing debt and the shortage of construction materials, the Cuban regime has proposed manufacturing mud and wood houses as alternatives.

These modalities have already been applied in areas such asTrinidad, Sancti Spíritus province, where the construction of houses with mud is promoted; as revealed last year by local sources.

Also in Santiago de Cuba, a Materials Production Company (Empromac) told the official press that it had had to replace concrete with mud to build homes, due to the shortage of raw materials.

Likewise, authorities of the province ofCamagüey promotes the use of mudas a solution to a shortage of construction materials forhousing programs for people affected by cyclones, mothers of more than three children and critical social cases.

In Las TunasThey have built wooden houses since last year.

Despite these "alternatives", the government recognized thatfailed to comply with the construction plan for new homes in 2022 in all the provinces of the island.

At the end of December 2022, the regime had managed to build only 58% of the promised houses.
