Massive drop in mobile data internet service in Cuba

Hundreds of residents in Cuba reported the total drop in internet service by mobile data this Thursday afternoon in several provinces of the country.

Complaints from several Internet users indicate that the outage was widespread and left users without mobile data service, but also without access to calls and messaging.

After insistent reports from hundreds of users through social networks, official media and the Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) confirmed the interruption.

On their social networks, ETECSA warned that there was "an impact" on mobile services and they did not clarify the causes of the internet blackout, they only limited themselves to saying that they were working on "identifying the failure."

Some users stated that they had service intermittently and for brief seconds, but most agreed that they did not have access.

In some cases, Cubans claimed to have been without service for at least an hour. From the East to the western provinces, everyone suffered the fall of the internet.

"This thing about the internet connection and ETECSA is already going from light brown to phosphorescent green, in any country in the world, there would have been a demand for a company like this a long time ago. You can't even work!", some Internet users exclaimed indignantly. .

Latest massive internet blackout It was reported at the end of November during the early morning hours before the start of the municipal elections on the island. The outage affected more than 70 percent of network traffic in Cuba, and lasted throughout the early hours of the morning.

Although ETECSA blames the "economic difficulties" Due to the slowness of Internet services through the mobile data network, the regime restricts access to this browsing service and censors sites for Internet users.

According to a study published by the Non-Governmental Organization Freedom House, Cuba is among the four countries with the least free internet in the world.

In its annual report, Cuba was ranked as the fourth country with the most content limitations, the greatest obstacles to access, and the greatest violations of user rights.
