Netflix announced a change in the monthly subscription fee to several Latin American countries, including Cuba, amid the wave of protests on social networks over the restrictions imposed on those who share accounts.

The video platform instreaming will charge those who contract the service from Cuba 3.99 USD per month for the Basic plan and up to 7.99 USD for the Premium, where up to four devices can be connected and the content is in Ultra HD,

The reduction, which also benefits other countries in the region such as Bolivia, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Paraguay, among others, comes in the midst of the controversy unleashed by Netflix, which wants to eliminate shared accounts claiming that it has significant economic losses.

However, the news of a change in the Netflix rate will not have a great impact on Cuba, which has one of the worst internet connections in the world, according to the Worldwide Broadband Speed League 2022 report.

Since 2015 Netflix has been licensed to operate in Cuba, although the high connection prices, the slowness of the service provided by ETECSA and the fact that not everyone has the necessary equipment to navigate cyberspace, are problems that citizens face.

Likewise, there is a problem that has not been solved until now and that is that to make the payment you need to have a Visa, Master Card or American Express bank card, to which it is impossible to introduce money from Cuba.

An analysis of the magazineBloomberg, corresponding to 2015, concluded that Cuba was not ready for Netflix.

In February of last year, the independent press outletelTOQUE published a report titled "How do Cubans watch Netflix?", and in this article it was learned that many use shared accounts of family and friends living abroad, something that will now undergo major changes due to changes in the company's policy. US.

The use of the best-known video platform in the world is replaced by Cubans with the package of the week, a much cheaper and more accessible option, which is enjoyed in aoff line and that keeps Cubans updated on movies, series and reality television programs.
