TheMiami-Dade police investigates an act of vandalism that occurred in the oldest cemetery in the county.
HeMiami City Cemetery, is located on NE Second Avenue and 18th Street. This cemetery, where the remains of important personalities and thousands of citizens rest, was violated last week and at least one tomb was destroyed.
Local 10 reported that the cemetery administrators called the police to investigate the damage found in at least one grave, which according to photos received by the media, had been excavated and abandoned with the crypt open.
Authorities did not provide details about the investigation, but asked that anyone with information contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
HeMiami City Cemetery It has been registered in the United States National Register of Historic Places since January 4, 1989.
In this enclosure rest the remains of figures of historical significance such asJulia Tuttle, considered the mother of Miami, the only female founder of a city in the United States.
Currently, very few burials are made in the cemetery because there is no space and the institution demands many requirements from families who wish to acquire a plot.
