On the occasion of Mother's Day, activists living in Spain called for a demonstration in Madrid next Sunday, todemand the freedom of political prisoners in Cuba.

Under the hashtag #ForAMothersDay without political prisoners, they seek to draw attention to the plight of mothersmothers who have children in prison for political reasons, as well as with those who face problems with food, housing and other basic needs.

The initiative also seeks to show solidarity with those mothers who have lost their children on dangerous journeys to other countries, such asthe Darien jungle or the Straits of Florida, and with those who are persecuted for their political activism.

Yanelys Núñez, one of the coordinators of the meeting that will take place this Sunday, at 5:00 p.m., in Madrid's Plaza de Callao, remindedCyberCubaThis is not the first time that they have met to demand the freedom of political prisoners and tell the reality of the country to Spanish society and tourists who come to Madrid.

"We want, more than anything, to accompany and that that day does not go unnoticed, that Annia Zamora, Aleida Rivera, Arianna López, Aimara Nieto, Bárbara Farrat, Lisandra Góngora, among many others, know thatWe continue to watch over them, we continue to demand their freedom, their children and Cuba."he highlighted.

For Núñez, this type of peaceful actions from exile is important, which is why it is Sunday and in Callao, where many people converge, it is ideal to tell the truth about what is happening in Cuba.

"It is necessary to know that on a day that should be a celebration, there are mothers who have their children in prison and others who are imprisoned in Cuba for political reasons, and who are subjected, inside the prison, to the worst torture," he said. .

This peaceful protest in Madrid joins othersactions carried out by Cuban civil society in exile, such as the boycott of hotel chains that do business with the communist government, the repudiation of Spanish media that encourage tourism on the island or the demand from official institutions for a public position against the dictatorship, among others.

"We have tried to occupy all public spaces. We cannot give up, it is about resistance and that is why we will mobilize this Sunday," he concluded.
