Cubans have been left without bread from the basic basket after the country ran out of flour for its production, as a result of a shortage that has escalated to a critical point.
In most Cuban provinces, the scarce flour reserves were enough to produce the bread in the warehouse until Saturday, but since then the state bakeries have been patiently waiting for the distribution of the product after a newship loaded with that ingredient will arrive in Cuba.
The local newspaperEscambray, from Sancti Spíritus, explained that "although an extreme effort was made to economize as much as possible on the wheat flour that existed in the reserve, the territory has suffered in recent days from the lack of bread from the basic basket."
In that territory, after the limited availability of flour was exhausted, they could not deliver bread from the family basket again until a shipment of flour was assigned again.
The same situation was confirmed in Santiago de Cuba, where the average official master saw reported this Tuesday that a ship from Europe, with 21,000 tons of wheat, had arrived in Havana.
However, that amount would only be enough to cover bread production for 12 days, since on average each of the 168 municipalitiesThey need between nine and 10 tons of flour daily to supply the population and prioritized social consumption.
"We are also waiting for a shipment that will arrive from Mexico on Wednesday or Thursday that will guarantee the production of several for the entire province that needs 65.9 tons," said a director of the Provincial Food Industry Company.
Cubans wonder about this lack of one of the basic foods for breakfast of children, elderly, for the school snack, how will they replace bread when their salary does not allow them to purchase the products sold by the private initiative.
In the midst of exhaustion due to a crisis that covers all sectors, many have exploded on social networks after waking up for days without food.
"In addition to all the tensions we handle with food, current, transportation comes the news of bread. Now yes, I would like someone to tell me how the children are supposed to study," wrote María De Jesús Gutiérrez inFacebook this Tuesday.
A Cuban from Ciego de Ávila repudiated the hypocrisy of the authorities who claim that they "steal reasons to win" when the people have no way to feed themselves.
"Members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, neither you nor your children, grandchildren and relatives are missing bread in your breakfasts. Neither you nor your children, nor your grandchildren and relatives, live with a ball of bread from 80 grams in weight," noted theinternet userBecky Marrero.
The shortage of wheat flour has produced aunsustainable situation, generating criticism among citizens, who must pay for a product that has no quality and is made with cassava flour, banana, among others.
