Fire caused in a Havana home leaves two injured, one of them seriously

And fire caused this Sunday morning in an apartment in New Vedado, in Havana, left two people injured, one of them seriously, according to the independent media 14 September.

The fire was apparently started by a 77-year-old man who attempted suicide by setting himself on fire after pouring fuel on his own body.

The man, who no longer lived in the apartment, was visiting his family when he committed the attempted robbery. suicide in one of the rooms of the house, located on the ninth floor of the building.

Already engulfed in flames, the old man went to his ex-wife's room and pounced on her, which also caused burns on the woman, according to the testimony of the aforementioned source.

In addition to the man's ex-wife, their daughter and a teenage grandson were in the house at that time.

The firefighters managed to put out the flames and took the old man out of the apartment with severe burns all over his body. He was taken to the Calixto García Hospital and so was his ex-wife, who has burns on her hands and legs.

The man went to live elsewhere after the divorce, but frequented his old apartment, where the rest of his family lived.

At the time of writing, official media outlets have not reported on the tragic incident.

This week, members of the Havana Fire Department put out a fire in another building in Vedado, according to official reports.

On Tuesday night, several commandos moved to a building on Línea Street, between N and W, where they faced dense smoke and flames. In that case, images showed a compact black smoke emanating from the garage entrance on the ground floor of the building.

The statement did not report whether or not it was necessary to evacuate the residents of the property, given that the fire was not large. In recent weeks there have been several house fires in the country, many caused by explosions of electric mopeds.

The most tragic event occurred in the early morning of June 28, in a house in Central Havana, which burned due to the explosion of several electric motorcycles.

Prevented from leaving the house, because the fire broke out in the living room, All seven members of the family who lived there died in the accident. Two of the victims were minors: a four-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl.
