In June, when announcing the new passenger transportation rates operated by private parties, the authorities also reported that they would reinforce confrontation and control actions on the road so that the set prices are met, warning that they would apply Decree 45 of 2021.

The authorities divided the 46 existing transportation routes into four groups, according to the price: 45 pesos, 75, 100 and 170 pesos.

The boatmen in Havana did not welcome the news andthey decided to stop working, as a form of protest against the government's imposition.

Several drivers expressed their intention to only transport people on trips previously arranged with the client and subsequently, They went on strike, in the middle of adrastic decrease in state transportation in the country.

The Cuban official press recognized thatdozens of boatmen have stopped workingin Havana after the Government set new prices for its rates.

Private transporters stated that the new prices are unsustainable for them, that they have the same difficulties as other Cubans in satisfying their basic needs, and must buy at high prices the fuel and spare parts that the state does not sell.

The imposition of the new prices was also applied in other provinces, such as Matanzas and Cienfuegos.
