Heformer president Donald Trump announced this Tuesday that theJustice Department is approaching a decision to prosecute him for his alleged interference in the 2020 presidential election, while another accusation looms over him in the state of Georgia.

Trump said he received a “warning letter” this Sunday from investigators following the case of theassault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in which he is notified that he is an objective in the investigation led by the special prosecutorJack Smith.

“A letter like that almost always means an arrest and an indictment,” wrote Trump, whose case over classified documents in his possession is the subject of a hearing in federal court in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Statement by Donald Trump.

On his social network Truth Social, the former president called Smith "deranged" and considered him to be the victim of a politically motivated witch hunt.

Trump noted that the letter is the common background prosecutors send when an indictment is imminent, offering him the opportunity to speak to the grand jury later this week in Washington, DC.

He grand jury was constituted to analyze evidence of possible Trump interference in the electoral process and the mob attack on the Capitol, which could lead to charges of obstruction of justice and even sedition.

Targets of criminal investigations generally refuse to meet with the grand jury, something Trump already rejected in two previous cases that indicted him.

The letter is a clear indication that an impeachment against Trump for the events at the Capitol is just around the corner.

Trump currently faces two other accusations: forimproper possession of classified documents, in a Florida federal court, and for falsification of business records in a New York court.

In the investigation of the events at the Capitol, elements such as an alleged consideration of a plan conceived by Trump to confiscate the voting machines of the states, as well as his role in a conspiracy to compile false lists of presidential electors and disqualify the Electoral College, weigh. officially formed.

But Trump is embroiled in a hectic legal landscape this week.

His lawyers attend the Fort Pierce courthouse this Tuesday afternoon to request that the trial be postponed until after the 2024 elections.case is in the hands of federal judge Aileen Cannon, which was appointed by Trump himself in 2020.

And this week a grand jury is also meeting in Fulton County, Georgia, where another indictment against Trump for interference in the presidential elections in the state is being considered. It is expected that the decision could be made by the beginning of August.

Among the evidence in the Georgia case is the recording of a telephone call to the highest state authorities of Georgia in which he asks to find 11,000 votes to reverse in his favor the results that gave him the winner.Joe Biden.

The case is in the hands of the state prosecutorWillis fans, which this Monday received a boost from the Georgia Supreme Court. Trump had asked to dismiss the investigation file, but the state's highest judicial body unanimously rejected his request and gave the green light to Willis to continue with the impeachment process.
