Thepolice search for an armed man who is accused of trying to steal a car and kidnap a woman early Saturday in the city ofFort Lauderdale, in the county ofBroward.
A couple was inside a parked vehicle shortly before 5:30 a.m. when a man with a gun approached them.
According to statements to thelocal press from police spokesperson, Casey Liening,The man who was driving managed to get out, but the woman who was in the passenger seat did not.
The alleged thief started the vehicle and took it with the woman on board.
The incident occurred near the 100 block of Southwest Second Avenue, an area known for its bars and nightclubs, very close to Downtown Fort Lauderdale.
After driving more than six miles and reaching I-95, very close to Oakland Park Boulevard, police officers intercepted the vehicle.
Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot and has not been located so far.
The victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The police hypothesis is that the suspect initially wanted to take the vehicle, but is now also being sought for kidnapping.
