Former US President Donald Trump confirmed through his Truth Social network that at 7:30 p.m. will be turned over to Georgia state authorities as part of the indictment against him for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in that state.
In his message, the businessman insulted District Attorney Fani Willis, calling her a "small-time district attorney," and repeated false claims about the 2020 elections in that territory, where he was narrowly defeated by Biden, he cited.NBC News.
Specifically, Trump will surrender at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta on felony charges brought by Willis, who oversaw the investigation and filed racketeering charges involving 18 people, including Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of New York and former attorney for Trump.
Giuliani and most of the co-defendants surrendered to the authorities on Wednesday, who gave until this afternoon for everyone to voluntarily surrender.
Trump said Thursday that he opposed "Willis's motion for entry of the pretrial scheduling order" after she proposed an Oct. 23 trial start date.
He also notified the court that he intends to file a motion to sever his case from Kenneth Chesebro or "any other co-defendant" who sues for a speedy trial.
It is not yet clear whether Trump will be subject to a mugshot from his arrest in this case, which would be a historic event in the country.
Unlike the other accusations against him, in this state case Trump must surrender to the authorities in prison. There the usual thing is that they take your fingerprints and a photo for the police record.
Trump must post $200,000 bail to be released.
The Fulton prison, where Trump and the other defendants will surrender, is an overcrowded prison, with a reputation for violence and negligence, and which is under federal investigation for several complaints.
Dozens of journalists await the arrival of the former president outside the prison, where there is a “strict blockade” of security in the area surrounding the prison.
On August 3, Trumppleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges to overturn the results of the 2020 election, by appearing in federal court in Washington DC.
The charges include conspiracy to defraud the United States government and witness tampering; at a time when the then-president was making fervent and unfounded claims of electoral fraud. They also link it to the events at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Trump was investigated for his 2021 phone call to a fGeorgia electoral unctionary, in which he pressured him to find thousands of votes in his favor, has denied any wrongdoing and the entire event led to an investigation by the Fulton County district attorney, Democrat Fani Wallis.
