Fight between Cuban santeros ends in shooting in Miami

The police arrested Cuban Omar Iglesias Valdés, godson of Santiago Rivero; But they are still investigating the case and do not know exactly how many people were involved.


A fight between Cuban santeros ended in a shootout outside The Corner Club nightclub in Brickell, according to authorities.

The conflict began at the club, at 1250 S Miami Avenue, and continued after the center closed early Monday morning; It occurred between two groups of men who were heading to their cars parked nearby, according to police reports.mediapremises that had access to the police record.

The police arrested Omar Iglesias Valdés and are looking for two alleged suspects: the babalawo Santiago Rivero Morales and Yosmani Rodríguez Granados, but they still do not know exactly how many were involved.

In the event, a 22-year-old young man was injured and authorities are still trying to determine the motives for the attack.

Manuel Barrios, apparently involved in the shooting, told detectives that he was going to his car - a yellow Lamborghini - when Omar Iglesias Valdés threatened him with a knife.

According to his version, Iglesias Valdés' friend, Rivero Morales, 33, then went to a parked Mercedes-Benz, grabbed a gun and shot him and his friend, Lázaro Guzmán Bango.

Barrios said that was when Lázaro also pulled out a gun and shot Rivero Morales and the two ran away.

Rivero Morales, Iglesias Valdés, 35, and Rodríguez Granados, 22, began to chase them, so Guzmán Bango shot the trio.

After several witnesses called 911, police officers responded to the street shooting around 5:20 a.m. near the corner of South Miami Avenue and 11 Street, records show.

Iglesias Valdés, who was born in Cuba and lives in North Miami, met with detectives on Tuesday and told them that he was at The Corner Club to celebrate his birthday with friends and when he left he heard gunshots, hid and took out a pocket knife that carry to protect yourself.

Detectives reported that Iglesias Valdés had "fresh stitches" on the little finger and ring finger of his right hand and when they asked him about the wound he said that he had cut himself with the knife, which he had lost.

For his part, the Cuban Babalawo Santiago Rivero, better known on social networks as Santy Ogbetua, narrated his version on his Instagram account where he said that he and his friends were victims of an attack with firearms.

In his testimony online, he stated that he and his friends did not have weapons, but his version has not been confirmed by the police.

Detectives detained Iglesias Valdés at the Miami Police Department precinct, and correctional officers booked him shortly after at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Facility.

The man faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A judge set his bail at $5,000 and the correctional facility released him this Wednesday.

The police spokesperson asked that those who have surveillance videos turn them over so he can determine who was really involved in the shooting.
