PresidentJoe Biden extended the United States economic embargo on Cuba for another year, as previous administrations, Republicans and Democrats, have done.
TheWhite House published thememo on September 13, one day before the validity of this law expired.
"...The exercise of certain authorities under the Trading with the Enemy Act is scheduled to expire on September 14, 2023. I hereby determine that the continuation of the exercise of those authorities with respect to Cuba for 1 yearIt is in the national interest of the United States"says the official text signed by Biden.
The Cuban regime will have to wait until September 14, 2024 to find out if the US government will make changes to the exercise of these authorities with respect to the island, something that they have been demanding for decades to be removed, but this has not been granted.
Therenewal of the period of validity of the embargo It is a routine assumed by 12 American administrations, Republican and Democrat.
Heembargo against the regime Washington partially imposed it in October 1960 in response to the nationalization and expropriation without compensation of American companies in Cuba. Its full scope began in February 1962. Since then, the regulations have been extended annually as a formality.
