The Cuban government has done nothing to help a group of 18 undocumented Cubans who have been detained by Immigration in a prison in the Russian city of Volgograd for about 40 days, and who continue to pressure them to enlist in the war.
“The information is there at the embassy. The information is also available in MINREX. We are all registered there, but we do not see the solution”, he lamented from the scene in statements toAmerica Camel, Alberli Arias, who at the beginning of September already announced the case in other previous statements to the same medium.
Arias indicated that evenOne of the Cubans in the group - made up of 12 men and 6 women - is already ready to go to war, but in his case they have not brought him the contract to sign it.
Alberli Arias explained to journalist Rolando Nápoles that his family was at the regime's chancellery headquarters in Havana at the end of August to present their case, but so far they have not been given any response.
“They have gone to the embassy, to MINREX... but at MINREX they are told that this is a problem here (Russia) that those from here are the ones who have to send us there”concluded Arias, who did not specify whether he was referring to the Russian government or the Cuban consular entity in Russia.
At the beginning of September Alberli Ariasdenounced that they were being blackmailed by the Russian authorities, which offered them citizenship of that country in exchange for joining the invasion of Ukraine.
As he indicated then, in exchange for their participation in the war, the Russian authorities would be offering them a salary and Russian citizenship, benefits similar to those revealed by other Cubans who have already been recruited as mercenaries by Russia.
According to their testimony, the detention center authorities were putting obstacles in the way of being returned on a deportation flight to Cuba.
In recent days the president's press secretaryVladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, refused to talk about the case of Cuban soldiers recruited to participate in the war in Ukraine, claiming that this issue was the responsibility of the military and that the Kremlin does not deal with such matters.
The spokesperson added that Moscow supports dialogue withHavana in all areas, including the military, a comment that coincides with that of the Russian ambassador in Cuba, who stated thatboth governments are in talks to clarify the case of the Cubans who would have been recruited.
The case of the Cuban mercenaries was uncovered after two families on the island reported that their children had been deceived by a woman who contacted them on Facebook and upon arriving in Russia enrolled them in the war.
Under pressure from these revelations, the Cuban Foreign Ministry issued a statement rejecting any form of participation in the invasion of Ukraine and emphasized that mercenarism is a crime in the country.
After that scandal, the Cuban regime said that its security agencies had dismantled ared ilegal that involved 17 people and that allegedly recruited Cubans to participate in the military operation in Ukraine on the side of Russian troops.
