The popular BimBom ice cream parlor, located in El Vedado, will reopen its doors soon under private management and with sky-high prices, in line with the severe inflation that empties the pockets of Cubans.

After closed for more than a year, the establishment carried out a kind of rehearsal on Friday with a sales cart under an umbrella at the entrance, on the sidewalk.

But the return of this gastronomic offer will not be within the reach of many. According to the independent portal 14 intervene, people who approached interested were shocked to see that a wafer with a single scoop of artisanal ice cream will cost 195 CUP pesos.

The establishment will now be called Bueníssimo Soderia Gourmet, and after several months of repairs, it will resume its services at the end of the month, the seller revealed.

BimBom emerged in the 90s, during the dollarization process. Although it operated in hard currency, it was always a very popular destination for both young people and families with children, not only for its wide variety of flavors but also for its location, on the corner of Infanta and 23 streets, in front of the Malecón.

Years later, the store closed, until 2020 when the Cimex corporation took over and began offering ice cream produced with raw materials imported from Italy. It remained until last year, when it broke the manufacturing machine.

Other ice cream parlors in the country that have reopened after being closed for a while have also done so with exorbitant prices.

This is what happened in the Cremería Las Copas, in Las Tunas, which opened in July, and where a scoop of ice cream costs 28 pesos, a salad with five scoops, 220 pesos; a banana split, 100 pesos and a Sunday spring, 98 pesos, figures that caused criticism from customers.

In June, a woman from Matanzas reacted with astonishment when she saw that in the private Alask ice cream parlor a small A pot of ice cream of no more than 250 or 300 grams costs 200 pesos, an unpayable price for the majority of the population.

In Havana, the Castillo de Jagua restaurant, in El Vedado, joined the state centers that seek to "reanimate" their gastronomic and commercial offer through the privatization of their management.

A private ice cream parlor in one of its areas, which was leased to Mypime Bianca S.R.L, for the sale of ice cream that it produces, served in glasses and pots.

Several Internet users have denounced their high prices on social networks, which range between 80 and 650 pesos.
