José Ariel Contreras on Mijaín López's attack on a Cuban in Chile: "I respected him until today"

Contreras called the wrestling champion's cookie a "shame" and regretted that they are both from Pinar del Río. "And now in Cuba they are going to put the ball however they want."

The legendary Cuban former baseball player José Ariel Contreras criticized theattack by the fighter Mijaín López on a young man who demonstrated against the dictatorship Castro in a baseball stadium in Chile, during the Pan American Games.

In an interview with the portalSwing Completo, the star of the national team and champion of the Major Leagues with the Chicago White Sox, described asThe fighter's cookie to the protester is "shameful", and he especially regretted that both -he and Mijaín- are from Pinar del Río.

Contreras did not know about the event. Upon watching the video, he was impressed by the violence that the four-time Greco-Roman wrestling champion showed against an "opponent" clearly without his exceptional physical conditions.

"I kill him.Oh, Mijaín López. I respected him until today. From Pinar del Río, from Pinar del Río!", he expressed.

The star pitcher stated that athletes in that category must behave in an exemplary manner towards the young people who follow them, on and off the field.

"What they do off the field influences these guys. It's incredible,a shame, a pity, a shame"he commented.

The player added that this event has not been reported in the media.

"No one knows that and they don't want anyone to know it either. And nowIn Cuba they are going to put the ball however they want, you'll see, you know how it works," he asserted.

Last Tuesday,Mijaín hit a young man from Villa Clara named Damián who took out a Cuban flag with the phrase "Freedom for Cuba" in a baseball stadium.

The embarrassing event occurred after amatch between Cuba and Brazil, in which the Cuban team was defeated four runs for two.

The giant of 1.95 meters and 130 kilos, who traveled to the South American country as part of the official delegation attending the Pan American Games, without thinking twice hit the young man who expressed his rejection of the regime.

"This is further evidence that the dictatorship exports repression, even in free countries they beat Cubans who use their freedom of expression by telling the truth in the face of Castroism," the Internet user identified as Marcel commented on Twitter.

Mijaín, 41, gave up competing in the Pan American Games to focus on his preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics, but he did not want to miss the event in Chile.
