A group of Cubans were arrested after being caught red-handed while dismembering and boning threehorses inside a home in the city ofGuantanamo.

"The incident occurred in San Gregorio between 10 and 11 south, in the province of Guantánamo," said the source, who noted that it is believed that the arrival of the authorities was the result of"a 'tip' from someone involved in the incident."

At the time of writing this note, the exact number of detainees has not been released, nor have other official details about the arrest.

In recent months, complaints have skyrocketed throughout the country from farmers who complain about the growing number of slaughterers who attack their animals.

In May of this year, Guantánamo farmers criticized the lack of action by the police to stop slaughterers and thieves, who enter their properties to slaughter their animals and steal their crops.

And the fact is that, even if the peasants catch the slaughterers in the act, for the police it is insufficient, because the accusing party has to present at least three witnesses to corroborate their testimony, as some of them explained to the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights ( OCDH).

In this state of helplessness, it becomes increasingly difficult for animal owners to care for them, becausecases of theft and illegal slaughter increase in the midst of the general crisis that the country is going through.

"If you don't present witnesses, they accuse you of defamation. The thieves take advantage of this and continue stealing. They have the freedom to continue doing it, because they are supported by the police," explained a resident of Baracoa, who assured that goats have been stolen from him. , rams and pigs, which is why he abandoned animal husbandry because it was not profitable, since the authorities did not respond to reports of theft and slaughter.

The situation is not exclusive to the eastern provinces.

In June the Cuban police reported thecapture of five alleged slaughterers in Havana just before they were supposedly going to sacrifice a beef in Guanabacoa, where those involved intended to use the railway line to sacrifice the animal.
