An officer of theMiami-Dade police with almost 10 years of service was arrested on serious charges ofchild sexual abuse against three minors, including his own daughter.
The subject, 40 years old and of Puerto Rican origin, has been identified as Daniel Ramos-Avilés. He was arrested on Monday night in the Miami-Dade Police Special Victims Unit and was presented in court on Tuesday.
According to the arrest warrant - cited by the local press -The complaint was made by the officer's wife on October 1, after the accused's daughter confessed to her mother.
Ramos-Avilés facesa total of seven criminal counts of sexual abuse or inappropriate conduct towards minors.
The crimes committed were against a 6-year-old girl and two 15-year-old teenagers.
In addition to his own daughter, the other two victims are his stepdaughter and the minors' cousin.
The charges include sexual assault of a minor, lewd abuse of a child under 12 years of age, as well as lewd exposure to a child under 16 years of age. For five of those charges he has been denied bail.
The forensic interviews included a call with the accused in which the mother questioned him about what happened and he simply asked her to talk to him in person.
The arrest report states allegations of contact of a sexual nature, inappropriate physical contact and exposure.
During the court hearing, the accused was told that he is prohibited from any contact with the victims and if he is allowed to return to his residence on only one occasion, it will be with police presence to remove his belongings and hand over his weapons.
A Miami-Dade judge denied bail to the police officer, who was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK) after an investigation carried out by the Special Victims Office of the agency he worked for.
“The privilege of being a law enforcement officer means that the oath we take and our identification represent integrity, trust and the honor of protecting our community. "I am horrified to learn that as a result of an investigation, detectives from our Special Victims team arrested a member of this agency," said a statement from Stephanie V. Daniels, Acting Director of the Miami-Dade Police.
"The Miami Dade Police Department will not tolerate this behavior and, as is customary, the department will assist and cooperate with the judicial process," the document adds.
