Police officer injured in Miami during undercover operation

Although the name of the injured officer was not released, authorities said his health is stable.

An officer of29 year old police officer was shot in the face this Monday while carrying out an undercover mission inMiami Gardensauthorities reported.

The events occurred on 154th Street and 19th Avenue Northwest in Miami Gardens, near the city limit with Opa-locka, when several detectives were carrying out an undercover operation, the spokesperson said.Argemis Colomeat a press conference.

At the scene of the incident there was aexchange of shots between several subjects who arrived in a car and the agents who were trying to enter a house, including this injured officer, who has been with the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) for seven years.

According toLocal 10 News, multiple law enforcement sources confirmed that the officer was a member of the MDPD Crime Suppression Team and was searching for a suspect in connection with another shooting over the weekend.

To date, there have been reportsfive people arrested, who face charges of shooting and attempting to murder an officer, authorities added.

The injured police officer is admitted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital and although his name was not revealed, it was known that his condition is stable.

“We thank God that this officer will be able to recover andYou will be able to spend these holidays with your family, but we want to tell anyone that these arethe risks officers face every time they put on their uniform and they go to the streets and do their job to protect the members of the community,” Colome said at the conference.

The mayor of Miami-Dade,Daniella Levine Cava, thanked the police for being stable, while calling him a hero, the television network reported.Univision.

“We have him and his teammates to thank for what they do every day to protect our community,” Levine Cava said.
