The young man from Havana Luis Yoilán Puebla Polanco was sentenced to 10 years in prison after a frustrated attempt to illegally leave the country from Villa Clara in a corrupt trial, says his mother.

María Cristina Polanco Díazexplained to the independent mediaCubanet that his son was accused by the “corrupt” authorities of Villa Clara of robbery with violence and intimidation of people along with three other people.

“My son was accused of a crime that never existed. He only intended to leave the country, he was planning an illegal exit,” says the woman.

“None of the three who intended to leave stole anything, that was a business: you take me, I'll pay you. Since the trip did not occur, they did not pay and the crime they invented depends on it,” he adds.

The young man has declared a hunger strike at El Pre prison in protest against what he considers an unjust sentence.

“I have patiently waited all this time trusting in the justice of my country, in the justice of Villa Clara, which particularly has its own laws and does things its own way,” the young man wrote in a letter to his mother that he collects.Cubanet.

Puebla Polanco explains thattried to leave the country “For economic reasons and to give a better future to my children, since everything I do in life I do with them in mind; But that does not make me a criminal, and even less would I participate in any robbery nor would I allow it, much less with violence.”

The young man has been detained since October 31, 2022 and is still awaiting a transfer to a Havana prison.

His mother has been to the Council of State, the Attorney General's Office and the Department of State Security more than four times asking that her son's case be reviewed, but her efforts have been unsuccessful.

Despite his strike, a prison guard known as Kiko forces him to visit the dining room as a method of torture.

“I am against the hunger strike but it is my son's decision and I have to respect it. That has me dead, it has me suffering; "I don't sleep, I don't live, thinking about that," says Polanco Díaz, who is the aunt of Eralidis Frómeta Polanco, the wife of the political prisoner.Lazarus Yuri Valley Rock.
