The authorities published fragments of the 911 phone call made on November 3 by Eric Contreras' brother, the 21-year-old young man who was murdered by his own father, of Cuban origin, in a domestic incident that occurred at the family home in Kendall, Miami-Dade County.
The call to the emergency room was made by the victim's brother, who was not at home at the time of the event and who only knew that something serious had happened because his father called him "crazy" to tell him to come home.
"Tell me exactly what happened?" the operator is heard asking; question to which the young man answers in anguish: "Someone's been shot. I don't know. My dad's calling crazy."
During the dialogue, the young man - named David Contreras like his father - clarifies that he was not there, that he was driving his car on the way to Disney World and that his father called him urgently to tell him to return home.
The operator tells him that the officers and a team of paramedics are already on their way, but he tries in vain to find out what happened, as the young man responds: "I don't know. I'm going crazy. I don't know."
"What did they tell you?" the dispatcher insists, and Contreras answers: "All my mom told me was that someone was shot, because my mom is in Orlando right now and my dad is at home with "My brother. Someone got shot. I don't know what's going on."
"My dad called me screaming, telling me to come home, come home. Then I hung up and my mom called me saying someone was shot, I don't know who. Then I hung up and called 911. She said someone's dead. I don't know what's going on. I'm trying to... I hope it's not my brother," said the young man, who is then heard saying: "They told me they're going to call me to see what's going on, but no one has called me. "I need to know if my brother is alive," he added.
According to the arrest report, David Contreras, 52, shot his son several times for reasons that have not yet been revealed.
When officers arrived at 10703 Southwest 84th Avenue in Miami-Dade, a quiet Kendall neighborhood near Pinecrest, they found Eric Contreras with several gunshot wounds.
The young man, who was a student at Florida International University (FIU), was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the father's lawyer, the young man had mental health problems and was undergoing treatment, and it is through this means that the defense will try to obtain arguments in favor of its client.
However, no information has emerged detailing that the mental condition of the deceased young man was fragile, nor clarifications of what happened that Friday, November 3, in the family home, which led to such a tragic outcome.
On Monday of this week, David Contreras declared himself - through his lawyer - as "not guilty" of second-degree murder.
The Cuban's next hearing was set for 10:30 a.m. on December 22nd. That day the defense will ask that Contrera be released on bail.
The defense assures that the accused is very depressed and they will ask the judge to consider releasing him on bail despite the fact that he is facing a very serious crime.
