Man arrested in Miami for operating an illegal assisted living center

The tenants were of different ages and had various medical and psychological conditions.

A 65-year-old man was arrested in Miami for running an assisted living facility without the proper authorizations.

Otto Egea He rented his home to more than 30 people with different degrees of mental and physical disabilities. Now he faces accusations of illegally operating this facility that did not meet the requirements demanded by the authorities.

TheMiami-Dade police carried out Egea's arrest after investigating several complaints. They searched the property, located at the intersection of 207th Street and Southwest 122nd Avenue.

Apparently it was asimple family home, but the residence hid an alarming situation.

Angel Rodriguez, a representative of the Miami-Dade police, revealed that the residents in the house were of different ages and had various medical and psychological conditions. Among them there are elderly people.

"There wasmedicines that they were not insured, that any of the patients could have access and could even administer the wrong dose," Rodríguez commented.

All tenants were evacuated to receive necessary medical and psychological evaluations. Some may stay temporarily while they look for a new home.

The center had worrying conditions, such as uncontrolled access to medications, which posed a danger to residents.

A tenant and volunteer on site,Kimberly Baker, defended the state of the house. The woman assures that there is an atmosphere of collaboration and well-being in the home.

Otto Egea He has a criminal record. He was convicted by the FBI in 2015 of fraud. He appeared in court this Thursday and was placed on bail of $5,000.

This case highlights the importance of oversight and legal compliance in residential care facilities. It also highlights the rights and safety of the vulnerable population in Miami. The police investigation remains open.
