Cuban Melissa Vargas elected best volleyball player in the world in 2023

The 24-year-old Cuban nationalized Turkish won four titles: with the Chinese club Tianjin, with the Turkish Fenerbahçe and with the Turkish national team in the Nations League and the European Championship.

Cuban Melissa Vargas, who has been residing and playing in Türkiye since 2018, was chosen best volleyball player in the world in 2023 through the specialized portal Volleybox.

The 24-year-old from Cienfuegos was at the top of the list with 1100.50 points, almost double the 634.80 points totaled by the Dominican Brayelin Martínez, who came in second place.

Vargas, naturalized Turkish in April 2021, has had an exceptional year, which began in the Chinese Volleyball Super League, where she led the Tianjin club to win the tournament and was named best foreign player.

After He returned to Türkiye to rejoin Fenerbahçe in Istanbul, an important Turkish club that she led to win first place in the Women's Volleyball League of the Eurasian country.

The player, who in May was called for the first time to be part of the women's national volleyball team of Turkey, was mainly responsible for the team's victory in the Nations League and less than three months later the European Championship.
