Peru tightens requirements for tourist visa applications for Cubans

Cubans must present a bank account with a minimum fixed balance of 400 thousand pesos.

The Peruvian governmenttightened the requirements for applying for tourist visas for Cubans, increasing thefixed balance in bank accounts at a minimum of 400 thousand pesos for six months.

The Consular Section of the Embassy of Peru in Havana reported through a Facebook post the update of the requirements for tourist visas, whoserequest must be made by email with a minimum notice of 30 days before the scheduled flight date.

The applicant mustattach the application form to an email, hepassport with a minimum validity of six months counted from the arrival in Peru, and thebank statement.

The latter must have aminimum validity of six months and prove a constant balance of at least 400 thousand CUP or 1,500 euros in the last six months. Previously, the Peruvian government required an amount of 100 thousand CUP per period of one month only.

The applicant must also submit theownership of a home in your name, and certificate ofcriminal record.

Likewise, aairfare and a hotel reservation.

In the case of economic solvency, "the requirement for the new amount in the bank statement will be applied progressively to new applications received from the date of this statement," the information states.

It clarifies that the tourist visa does not admit the "purpose of immigration, residence or carrying out remunerated activities."

The cost of the visa is 30 euros.

Although in March of last year Peru had the intention of eliminating transit visas for Cubans, in the face of the unstoppable migration crisis on the island it decided to maintain the requirements, and thenupdated them in September 2022.

It also pointed out that in that email the applicant's passport should be attached in ONE file, scanned in color and in PDF format, with a minimum validity of six months from the date of entry into Peruvian territory; a bank account statement, with a minimum balance of 100,000 Cuban pesos, updated one month in advance.
