Two pipes from the same state company collided this Wednesday afternoon in the municipality Slopes, in the province of Camaguey, as reported by a witness on social networks.
Despite the poor state of the cabin of at least one of the pipes, fortunately there were no serious injuries as a result of the incident.
Ricardo Varela, the Internet user who reported the incident in the Facebook group Buses & Truck Accidents, explained that the accident occurred around four in the afternoon on January 3, when "a Dairy car hit another car belonging to the same entity."
The source explained that the vehicles were crossing when suddenly one of the two made "a turn to the left, avoiding a cyclist, that is, improper overtaking, and he hit the other pipe."
"Luckily only some scratches and material damage. I don't know more details. Drive with care and stay alive, gentlemen," the source concluded, after specifying that it happened in Vertientes, Camagüey.
In the comments section of the publication, several Internet users attacked the drivers, calling them "showy" or "being stupid."
"If they went slower and kept a safe distance, that wouldn't happen. In Cuba, the cyclist's right of way is not respected and they only avoid it when there is no longer an option," noted one commentator.
"I am shocked when some people justify what was done badly. That is why there are so many accidents, due to the so-called 'drivers' who violate traffic laws. Those two would have to have the repair of the trucks deducted from their salaries and then fired the company due to negligence and lack of professionalism," said one woman.
A driver from Villa Clara said that in his province "the Dairy drivers are a potential danger in those pipes," and indicated that he is "terrified" of them because of their reckless driving.
There was also no shortage of Internet users who limited themselves to joking at the expense of the dairy shortage in Cuba: "For the milk there is"; "Of course they didn't bring milk," noted two commentators.
At the close of this note there are no other confirmed details about the incident, one of the first on record in the recently begun 2024.
Accidents did not give up on Cuban roads in 2023. Between January and October Cuba registered 6,965 traffic accidents, which represented an increase of 12.8% in relation to the accidents that occurred in the same period of the previous year, according to official figures.
The almost 7 thousand accidents that occurred in the first ten months of last year left 562 dead and 5,643 injured.
