Severe storm affects the north of Havana

A severe local storm affected the north of Havana early this Wednesday, and left severe damage in the Siboney neighborhood of the Playa municipality.

Provincial authorities published images of the area while they assessed the damage and began recovery efforts.

The first secretary of the Party in the Cuban capital, Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, published on his X account that among the most notable consequences were damage to roofs of homes, affected water tanks and the fall of poles, which caused interruptions in the electrical supply.

The storm also downed trees and power lines, the official said.

The storm would be associated withnew cold front that affects western Cuba this Wednesday.

On Tuesday the Institute of Meteorology warned about the arrival of a cold front, a consequence of the winter storms in the United States, and that would generate showers and rains in Havana and other provinces in the west of the island.

According to that entity, numerous rainfalls were reported in the last few hours, and the highest accumulated rainfall was recorded in the Havana portion of Casablanca, with 46.4 millimeters.
