The proliferation of garbage dumps and dirty streets in Cuba is a panorama that is transmitted from province to province, without noticing many differences between each of the country's territories.

For example, in the Cuban capital, Havana, There are many complaints made about the existence of solid waste on the roads. without the authorities complying with the collection cycles.

Last year, The opponent and former political prisoner Silverio Portal exposed on his Facebook profile the immense garbage dumps that accumulate in the streets of the municipality of Centro Habana, where the situation is aggravated by the large number of buildings in ruins and others standing due to pure “miraculous static.”

Also on that same social network, the user José Marcos Ortiz reported that an area of the San Agustín neighborhood, in La Lisa, is an open-air garbage dump, since "the wind spreads cardboard, bags and papers on the street and in the building's garden." nearby, creating an environment of extreme abandonment and that is not to mention the bad smell, rodents and insects.”

In February 2023, The official press exempted the government from all responsibility for the filth of many streets, blamed citizens for the garbage that remains in various areas of Havana and justified the public accumulation of waste with the lack of resources of the municipal Communal Services companies.
