Three Cuban migrants kidnapped while waiting for CBP One appointment

The family of the kidnapped migrants asked for help through a video published by journalist Javier Díaz.

Three Cuban migrants were kidnapped in Tijuana, Mexico, last Saturday, when they were preparing to attend their CBP One appointment at the border with the United States, according to family members.

In a news spread by journalist Javier Díaz through Facebook, the relatives tearfully explained that the three young people had to appear at the appointment obtained through the CBP One application and now they are asking them for $5,000 in ransom.

“They are asking us for $5,000 for each one, a figure that we have no way of reaching in any way. I am making this public, please, to ask for everyone's help," said the wife of Yandy González Darias and sister of Yandy David Mengana Abreu, two of the kidnapped people.

Another person, who did not identify himself in the video, asked the American and Mexican authorities to intervene in the case, even saying that they have addresses and telephone numbers of the extortionists.

Yandy David's aunt, Rebeca Moya Abreu, also expressed that they sent them videos where they assure that they will kill them if they do not comply with the delivery of the money.

“We are desperate because we don't have money, we don't have a single peso and we have no way, we are desperate, the mother, the sister and the entire family. “We need you, please, to help us publish this video, because we have no other way for them to be released,” the aunt added.

The kidnappings of migrants who are going to attend their CBP One appointments have become daily occurrences by criminal gangs in Mexico, who take advantage of the situation to profit from the lives of people who are fleeing from repressive and totalitarian governments that do not respect Your rights.

In a video broadcast by Mega TV on its Facebook profile last September, A Cuban woman, through tears, explained that some of her cousins were supposed to show up for the appointment obtained through the CBP One application, but they were kidnapped when they were on their way between Monterrey and Matamoros or Reynosa, without knowing precisely which city they were going to.

Recently, A Cuban migrant who was kidnapped and extorted by criminal gangs in Mexico was finally able to reach the United States.

The story of this Cuban, whose name was not revealed, was spread by the independent journalist from Camagüey, José Luis Tan Estrada, who said it was “a close relative and very dear to me.”

This Cuban, like many other migrants from the island, “made a journey from Nicaragua to Mexico,” which was “practically easy without many setbacks.”

But in Mexico “she was kidnapped by a group of gangsters and had to pay X amount of dollars to be released.”

More than 25 thousand Cubans entered the United States through land and sea borders last December, the highest figure since the end of 2022.

The Border Patrol said in its latest report that a total of 25,060 migrants from the island arrived by sea and land during the last month of last year, and of them more than 17,000 did so through the Mexican border.
