Five Cuban women, including a pregnant woman, were part of the group of 12 rafters who were rescued by a tourist cruise ship near the coast of Cancun, in Mexico.
The National Migration Institute (INM) said in astatement that the administrative process has already concluded for the 12 migrants who on the afternoon of Saturday, January 27, were rescued by the Norwegian Prima cruise ship 200 miles off the coast of Quintana Roo, near the area known as Mahahual.
InThe group included five women., one of them pregnant, and seven men, all adults, the information specifies.
He explains that upon arriving on land the INM, in collaboration with Semar, proceeded with the transfer of the Cuban nationals to the Mahahual Health Center for their medical evaluation.
The health personnel indicated that 11 of them could be taken to the Chetumal Immigration Station and one of them should be sent to the General Hospital in the area for a more comprehensive evaluation.
The crew of the tourist service boat rescued the rafters in international waters and notified the Mexican authorities.
They then requested institutional support, through the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) and the National Guard (GN) to receive and care for the migrants.
"After verifying that they did not have documents proving their regular stay in the country, the INM began the corresponding procedures and granted the people from Cuba the necessary attention to regularize their immigration status," the statement said.
It has not been revealed how many days the rafters had been at sea.
Several Cubans have been rescued near Mexico after they tried to flee the island in precarious and unsafe homemade boats.
Likewise, several luxury cruise ships have rescued Cubans in the Straits of Florida. Recently, tourists on a cruise ship caught a group of dehydrated rafters at sea after several days of crossing to Miami.
